Born 17 March 1819 in Mull Argylleshire Scotland the son of Lachlan McKay and Ann Stewart. He arrived in NSW on 2 January 1838 aborad the ''Brilliant''. George was Chairman of Orange Municipal Council between 1861- 1863. He was the Member for Orange between 1867-1869. George was a farmer of ''Collwood'', innkeeper and elder of the Presbyterian Church.
