Born in Borenore in 1895, Arthur William Cecil Attwood enlisted in the First World War in Dubbo on 9 May 1916.

Arthur’s military career last barely a year; he was one of 21 men from the Orange district who were killed in the Battle of Bullecourt in May 1917.

Arthur was 23 years old when he was killed in action; he has no known grave. He is commemorated on the World War I Roll of Honour on the southern face of the Orange Cenotaph, on panel number 98 on the Roll of Honour at the Australian War Memorial in Canberra and on the Australian National Memorial at Villers-Bretonneux in France.
