Coronation Drive

In July 1953 it was decided that the memorial avenue of trees along Cargo Rd to celebrate the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II might now be planted as far as Plowman's Creek. Work on "Coronation Drive" began on Monday, 13 July. Council's men dug the holes, and Orange Rotary provided the nearly 200 deciduous trees. Despite some worries about possible confusion with Coronation Ave in East Orange, the road was to be called "Coronation Drive".Some Rotary members expressed disappointment at the choice of site, as they thought an avenue of trees could have been better used to beautify parts of Peisley St.

A plaque at the start of the Drive near its intersection with Woodward Street indicates that Coronation Drive originally extended all the way out to Lake Canobolas but recent road maps show Coronation Drive ending at Ploughmans Lane.
