Cr Jason Hamling, Mayor of Orange 2021-

Councillor Jason Hamling was officially declared Mayor of Orange on 21 December 2021, replacing Reg Kidd, who stepped down after a council career spanning more than three decades.

Mayor Hamling was born and bred in Orange. He attended Glenroi Public School and Canobolas Rural Technology High School.

A former head cameraman at WIN Television for 25 years, Mr Hamling has served on Orange City Council since 2004, including two terms as deputy mayor.

Cr Hamling has a keen interest in the Orange community. He has chaired Orange City Council’s Sport and Recreation Committee since 2004 and has coached junior rugby and Orange Bush Nippers. He is a founding board member of Ronald McDonald House Central West and has served on the Domestic Violence Working Committee, the Crime Committee and the Palliative Care Community Committee.

Cr Hamling is currently a member of Audit and Risk Management Advisory Committee, NAIDOC Week Community Committee chair, Companion Animals Community Committee, Orange and Cabonne Road Safety Community Committee, Sister Cities Community Committee, Orange City Council representative on JOC (formerly CENTROC), Association of Mining Related Councils, TDO Ltd, Civic Risk Mutual and Ronald McDonald House.

Objectives: I would like to see the Councillors work together more effectively to ensure ratepayers money goes further and is spent wisely.

I believe there should also be more transparency within Council to keep residents informed of what their representatives are working on and how their rates are being used.

I think Orange has the potential to expand over the next few years, and I'd like to see the Council capitalise on opportunities to bring new development to the City.

There are also a number of projects we need to continue working on, including The Bypass Road and blocking any move to transport nuclear waste on our roads.
