John Peisley First Chairman of Orange Municipal Council 1860

John Peter Peisley, first Chairmain of Orange Municipal Council was the son of John Peisley who was a convict transported to Australia on board the Perseus in 1802. He arrived with his wife Elizabeth Peisley nee Boswell and his baby daughter, Ann Mary Obee Peisley. It is believd they eventually had nine children, one of whom was John Peter born on 1 January 1805 in Parramatta.


John Peter Peisley married Mary Dean who was the daughter of two convicts, William Dean and Elizabeth Hollingworth.

A storekeeper at Orange John Peter Peisley was elected as the first Chairman of the Orange Municipal Council. He was also the Member for Orange from 8 December 1860 to 10 June 1862.

John Peter Peisley died at Orange on 9 December 1871. Peisley Street is named in his honour.
