Robert Frost married Bridget Carroll at Summer Hill near Lucknow in 1857. The property was the childhood home of Bridget, established by her parents, Elizabeth and Michael Carroll, in 1837 when Bridget was an infant.

Robert was much newer to the region, having arrived from England in 1852. He made his money selling beef and mutton to hungry gold miners in the recently established gold fields and went on to hold significant shares in the Wentworth Mine.

Robert and Bridget lived at Campdale, now the site of the PLC Kinross Wolaroi School, west of Orange. Of their thirteen children, twelve were girls. Robert died in a tragic horse-riding accident near their home in 1888, followed the next day by his 15 year old daughter, reportedly of shock. Bridget survived them by almost twenty years, dying aged 71 in 1906.
