Samuel Whitmee Mayor of Orange 1930

Born at Bathurst in 1864 Samuel Whitmee became President of the first Canobolas Shire Council in 1907. In 1916 Samuel went to England on his own behalf on advice from Sir Neville Howse and joined the Red Cross contingent during WWI. He was later elected Alderman to Orange City Council and was also Mayor of Orange. Samuel died in Orange in 1931 and is buried in the Orange Cemetery.
