Thomas John Dixon was born in Corowa in about 1881. According to paperwork in his military record he was the son of Mr Thomas Dixon of Lowesdale who signed for his war medals in 1922.
At the time of his enlistment in Dubbo, Thomas John was a labourer and gave his address as Orange, New South Wales. His next of kin was his brother John, residing at Shannon Vale via Corowa.
Thomas embarked per HMAT A18 Wiltshire at Sydney on 22 August 1916, arriving in Plymouth on 13 October. In December he proceeded overseas to Etaples in France.
Private Thomas Dixon formed part of the 19th Battalion who relieved the 17th at Grevillers in the Nord-Pas-de-Calais region of France on 16 March 1917. The following day Thomas was killed in action. No Red Cross Wounded and Missing records exist to record the way he died.
Thomas was buried in an isolated grave ¾ mile NNE of Grevillers, 1 ½ miles NE of Bapaume. He was later exhumed and reinterred at Achiet-le-Grand Communal Cemetery Extension, France, Plot 3, Row E, Grave 25.
Private Thomas John Dixon is remembered on panel number 88 on the Roll of Honour at the Australian War Memorial in Canberra.
