William Carr was one of eight known Aboriginal servicemen with a connection to Orange. Born in Parkes in 1890, Carr was working as a labourer in Orange when he enlisted in April 1918.
He proceeded to Liverpool camp, where he passed his riding test and undertook musketry training. Carr was discharged in October 1918.
